Constructed of stainless steel, our guide rod allows for easier assembly of the Smith & Wesson M&P22 pistol (Does not fit the M&P22 COMPACT). The captured guide rod assembly uses a hex screw and a stainless steel Bushing at the end of the rod to "capture" the recoil spring. The guide rod can be used with both factory strength and reduced power springs offered HERE It is recommended to use a small amount of thread locker on the screw to keep it from backing out over time.

Installation Instructions RESTRICTIONS
 
1) Turn down the takedown catch 90 degrees and pull out.

2) Pull back the slide all the way to the rear and pull up the back side of the slide.

3) While holding the rear section of the slide up allow the side to move forward and come off the frame.

4) Remove the old recoil spring, Guide Rod and Buffer.

5) Slide over end of guide rod the Polymer recoil buffer, recoil spring, then Stainless Steel washer.

6) Compress the spring and Stainless Steel washer and install hex screw. NOTE: a tiny amount of thread locker is recommended.

7) Install the new Captured Guide Rod Assembly and reverse steps 1-3.

Spring fit perfectly.  Really like the fact that it is captive and no need to worry about losing pieces when disassembling the firearm.

I have a Smith& Wesson M&P 22 full size that's always had feeding problems on lower grade ammo. Changed out for the lower pressure spring, what an improvement. Then heard about Captured Guide Rod Assembly and decided to try it out. Perfect!!  No more hassles disassembling or reassembling. Misfeeds are a thing of the past. Thanks great product great service

Looks to be stainless steel. Much better quality than the mim recoil rod. Appearance is much more attractive than my finish worn factory part. Hand cycling feels normal in resistance but slide travel does feel just a bit shorter.
